Orchestral soundfonts/samplepacks/vsts/etc
« on: May 29, 2009, 04:41:31 PM »
I'm building up this giant database of orchestral song ideas in my head, but can't get them down because of the complete lack of quality sounds...and for some reason I've built up this idea in my head that I need good orchestra sounds for it to be worth it. :P

And the other thing...yes, I want it to be free. When I get a proper job I'm almost certainly going to get some decent orchestral stuff (maybe EWSO silver or something) but for now, I just want something free. :( Not worried whether it's a demo with all these beeping noises or something, but yeah.

So anyone know of any good orchestral 'sounds', in any format?

Have you checked kvraudio.com?

On my old computer, I remember having a classical string synth I found on kvraudio. Don't remember the name. When you do the search though, check "Free." lol you probably knew that.

Been to kvr many times, haven't thoroughly checked their database of orchestra stuff though. I'm looking for a whole orchestra, whether in seperate vsts/samplepacks/etc or not, so it will be pretty hard to find for free, but whatever. I will have to check kvr properly though.

Found an awesome orchestral soundfont:

http://soundfonts.darkesword.com/

Called squidfont. Also, the harp is great.

Download the soundfont decompressor also available on that site.

And then play the soundfonts in this (or other) vst soundfont player:

http://www.cakewalk.com/support/project5/sfz.aspx

I used them in this song here:
