I mean WOW.
This isn't as much of a helpful tutorial as much as it is a fun experiment.
First, navigate to your Windows sound folder (usually C:\WINDOWS\Media) and load some of the sounds into your DAW. I like "Ding" and "Windows XP Ding." Once loaded, apply moderate delay and reverb to the samples. This process will vary by your DAW, but in FL Studio you can link the samples to a Mixer track and add Fruity Delay 2 and Fruity Reeverb.
That makes these sound 100% legitimately better.
Try arranging a piano-like melody with these! I arranged the MOTHER3 Love Theme with the Windows XP Ding, and it is just WOW.
